A dozen interested companies
The Ministry of the Presidency, Public Administration and Interior organized this promotional action through Extenda-Andalusian Agency for Foreign Promotion.
This year, this international fair held the 18th edition and it was dedicated to the food and beverage sectors. This event is held every two years and is aimed at exclusively professional public.
In addition, Extenda highlight that the fair attracts a large number of leading buyers in the food sector. They are wholesalers, retailers, supermarkets, catering, beverage importers, restaurants, etc. For this reason, it has been an opportunity to open new business options for Andalusian firms in a sector that increased its exports by 22.9% in the last five years.
The Andalusian companies are located in the Spanish Pavilion managed by ICEX. The delegation consisted of three companies from Seville, two from Granada, one from Almería, one from Cádiz, one from Córdoba and one from Jaén.
Also, this action is co-financed with funds from the European Union through P.O. Feder de Andalucía 2014-2020.
Hong Kong, an opportunity
Extenda explains that Hong Kong is a very interesting market for agrifood products. The population, with a high average income, depends on food imports from abroad.
In addition, the high-end agrifood products that can enter gourmet channels generally have great potential. For example: olive oil, ham, meat, cheese, sausages, meat and fish preserves, etc.
We would like to inform you that Andalusia is the second largest exporter to this market. Certainly, this state has 11.3% of the total national invoice, only behind Catalonia (29.3%).
The number of Andalusian companies exporting food and beverages to Hong Kong was 135 in 2018. Of these, 46 are regular exporters, ten more firms than five years ago.
External and internal support
In 2018, a total of 1.030 companies in the agricultural and beverage sector, 5.4% more than in 2017, took part in 551 actions organised by Extenda. It is 20.5% more than the previous year, generating 4,183 participations, 25.3% more.
Looking ahead to 2019, Extenda has programmed a series of actions that again include the main international trade fairs in the sector Foodex, SIAL, Iran Agrofood, Prowein or Big Fortified Tasting. Also, 17 direct trade missions to Poland, the United States, China, Brazil, Peru, Ecuador or South Africa, among others.
Also, there will be technical conferences and singular actions such as showrooms and food tastings; point-of-sale promotions in Andorra, Portugal and the United States; olive oil promotion campaigns in France and the United States; or table olives in France, the United Kingdom and India.
Specifically, the next appointments for Andalusian agri-food companies to participate are SIAL China, Food and Hotel Corea, PLMA Food and Wine Complex, in May; as well as a direct mission to China, an ecological mission to the United Kingdom, and a fruit and vegetable mission to Canada, all in June.
